New ship-to-shore gantries (STS) have arrived at the BCT - Baltic Container Terminal in Gdynia, which will be one of the key elements strengthening the port’s competitiveness in the Baltic Sea region.
The new gantry cranes, manufactured by ZPMC, were delivered to the terminal as part of an investment program carried out by BCT in cooperation with the Port of Gdynia Authority.
The new infrastructure will significantly increase the terminal’s capacity and prepare BCT to handle more demanding logistics operations and larger container vessels. The investment is also intended to improve the efficiency of transshipment processes, increase the predictability of operations, and reduce cargo handling time.
The cranes have a lifting height of 55 meters and a reach that allows them to work across 25 rows of containers across the ship's deck. The structure height with the boom raised is 140 meters, and the lifting capacity is 65 tons under the container spreader and 75 tons under the hook. Technically, the new units are designed for semi-automatic operation. These units are capable of handling vessels of all sizes that, for navigational reasons, may enter the Baltic Sea.
The investment is part of a broader process of port infrastructure modernization carried out using public funds and through public-private sector cooperation. The purchase of the equipment was supported by funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) under project no. KPOD.09.09-IW.02-0033/24 titled “Equipping the BCT intermodal terminal with modern transshipment equipment.” The project demonstrates how combining state infrastructure investments with the development of operator terminals can enhance the competitiveness and resilience of Polish logistics.
